One relationship that comes to mind is that of the men and women raised in Wahhabism. This least tolerant group from the Muslim religion has a very different cultural view when it comes to the relationship of married couples. The arrangement follows a doctrine that places men's rights well above that of women's.
Women have very little rights which means they can't go anywhere without asking for permission, and even if they are allowed to go, they would have to be with a male relative.
This lack of gender freedom would not work anywhere else in the world. It continues to this day in Saudi Arabia because of the foreign protection provided to that nation.
